Update on Belarus

I know most of you out there have probably forgotten about Belarus elections by now. I'm sure the U.S. news media has moved on to other more sensational and local issues, but for the still-curious and prayerful, I wanted to pass a long a link to my student Suzana's blog. Suzana is in my American lit class, and is one I have lots of great conversations with. She's been in contact with her friends in Minsk as events there are occuring, some of whom have been jailed during the protests of the past week - some of these whom I met at the church when I visited in October.

Today, the 25th of March, the opposition party is calling for increased protests (and seem to be having some sucess) to call attention to the results of last Sunday's election, and to symbolically mark the date of the original Belarussian independence in 1918. Please be in prayer and keep our LCC students in your thoughts as well - many of them are quite worried about friends at home, about being watched closely by KGB (because they're studying in a "western" institution), and about the future of their country.

The Canadian media is still reporting some things. The CBC reported yesterday that a Canadian journalist was arrested.
