Seeking

One of my hopes for this Christmas break has been that I will have some time to rest and to pray. I have wanted to spend some serious time in prayer for some specific concerns that have been on my heart lately. Recently, I was reminded that I need to be careful of viewing prayer as simply a way to receive answers. Often when I think about “seeking” the Lord, what I am really seeking is not the Lord, but answers to my questions.

What God wants is for me to seek Him, Himself, His person, a relationship with Him. Prayer is not about getting answers to my hopes or fears, but about knowing my Father better. Once I learn simply to seek Him, my need for answers will fade, and I will be at peace no matter the situation. It’s a simple but subtle difference, and I'm still learning.

I've heard it said that prayer doesn't change the outcome, it changes our outlook. Your blog inspires me to keep on seeking Him above all the distractions of this life and culture. Thank you for taking time out of your schedule for coffee-- I'll be looking forward to the summer. :)
